New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner was the fourth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft from the Cincinnati Bearcats. Ever since coming into the league, Gardner has been one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL.

PFF Ranks New York Jets Cornerback Sauce Gardner Number One Ahead Of 2025 NFL Season

“Gardner’s 91.9 PFF coverage grade since 2022 leads the league. He has forced a league-high 46 incompletions and allowed a league-low 0.60 yards per cover snap and 21.4% first-down-plus-touchdown rate over that span.
Unsurprisingly, Gardner’s PFF advanced coverage grade ranks first, as well. While he might not shadow opposing wide receivers at a high rate, he has excelled when asked to do so.”
Gardner during the 2024 NFL season with New York recorded 49 tackles, one sack, one interception, and nine pass deflections. He may not record a lot of numbers, but this is because quarterbacks are not really interested in targeting his side for the Jets. The cornerback position has not been the issue for New York for the last couple of seasons and Gardner played well and so did D.J. Reed.
New York at some point will need to give Gardner a contract extension. He is only 24 years old and one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL. It is not a surprise pro football focus ranked him at number one despite Surtain winning defensive player of the year in 2024. With Reed no longer in New York, Brandon Stephens will be opposite him and Gardner will need to lock it down once again in 2025 also.
