The Cleveland Browns quarterback room became more clear when they traded away Kenny Pickett to the Las Vegas Raiders. With that happening, Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders all made the 53-man roster.
Flacco was named the starting quarterback for the team in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns. However, head coach Kevin Stefanski announced that Gabriel is going to be the backup quarterback for Cleveland over Sanders. He was a third-round pick from the Oregon Ducks in the 2025 NFL Draft and Sanders was a fifth-round pick from the Colorado Buffaloes in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Browns fans were not thrilled when Stefanski announced that Gabriel was named as the backup quarterback over Sanders. During the preseason, the former Ducks quarterback threw for 272 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. This is what some Cleveland fans said about the decision to make Gabriel the backup quarterback instead of Sanders.

Well, there are upset Browns fans who believe that Sanders should be ahead of Gabriel on the depth chart. With that being said, there is probably a plan in place for both Gabriel and Sanders to play at some point for Cleveland in 2025 if Flacco struggles unless the Browns win games early on in the 2025 NFL season.
