The New York Giants have officially brought in their new starting quarterback for the 2025 NFL season. Of course, that quarterback is none other than Russell Wilson, who was signed to a one-year deal worth up to $21 million with incentives.
Wilson may not be the future under center for the Giants, but they don’t need him to be. Most rumors have New York drafting Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft with the No. 3 overall pick.
Instead, what the Giants want Wilson to do is come in and be a perfect bridge quarterback. They want to win in 2025 while developing a young quarterback. Wilson can get that job done.
What would a successful season look like for the new starting quarterback in New York? A former player has spoken out and revealed the answer to that question.
Former Player Reveals What a Successful Season for New York Giants QB Russell Wilson Looks Like in 2025
Emmanuel Acho, a former NFL player and current analyst for Fox Sports, spoke out about the matter. He revealed a very reasonable goal for what a successful season would be for Wilson and the Giants.
“A successful season for Russ is to win nine games,” Acho said. “I do not care what you do individually because I don’t think the world cares what you do individually. I was talking about Russell Wilson yesterday with some of his close confidants, and I was talking about the fact that Russell Wilson, over the last two seasons, has 42 touchdowns and only 13 interceptions. How do you have 42 touchdowns, 13 interceptions over the last two seasons, and you’re on your third team? What you do individually, Russell Wilson, does not matter nearly as much as what you do collectively.”
With the roster that New York has put together, winning nine games with Wilson leading the way at quarterback is more than doable. Even in 2024 with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Wilson was able to put up a solid all-around year.
Speaking of his 2024 season, Wilson ended up playing in 11 games and completing 63.7 percent of his pass attempts to go along with 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also recorded 155 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
