Alex Smith, the talented, former NFL Quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Washington Commanders (formerly known as the Washington Redskins), gave us a private look into his six-year-old daughter, Sloane’s diagnosis of a brain tumor. On May 10th the former Quarterback’s daughter was rushed to the ER, after stroke-like symptoms. An MRI was administered. Sloane’s family was told that a large brain tumor had been discovered. Emergency surgery was completed on that day.
Smith and his wife, Elizabeth, rarely post photos of their kids on Instagram. However, over the weekend, the father of three, was compelled to post photos of Sloane and thank everyone who supported his family during this difficult time. Alex Smith on Instagram: “This is Sloane Kenzington Smith, our baby, the youngest of three and our only girl. She is sweet, selfless, intelligent, hilarious, witty…”
Smith also posted candid photos of his daughter Sloane after her surgery. He wrote, “Sloane-in her true form-bounced back from brain surgery like a rockstar!
Approximately 4,000 children and adolescents in the US are diagnosed with primary brain tumors each year. They are listed as 1 out of 4 childhood cancers.
Smith’s fans sent their heartfelt support to him on Instagram. Smith had 17 surgeries of his own after a serious leg injury in a game, in November 2018, where he broke his right tibia and fibula. However, in October 202, he made an unprecedented comeback after he returned to the field. Determination and perseverance are definitely a part of the Smith family genes.
