There were two main names that stood out when digging to find previous Dolphins in the XFL. Kalen Ballage and De’Veon Smith spent a short time as Miami Dolphins and are now playing in the XFL.
Kalen Ballage, RB, San Antonio Brahmas, #11
Ballage was a fourth-round pick by the Dolphins in 2018. He spent two seasons as a solid short yardage back. He scored three touchdowns in 2019 and 2020. Upon leaving the league, he had a yards per carry average of 3.1.
His junior year at Arizona State was pretty impressive with 15 total touchdowns and 1,000 scrimmage yards.

De’Veon Smith, RB, Arlington Renegades
Smith’s NFL career was a short one. He has only handled three NFL touches and 27 yards for the Dolphins in 2017. Smith was a popular XFL name in 2020, leading the league with 265 rushing yards. The Tampa Bay Vipers benefited from Smith, as he was set for 180 carries during the shortened season.
Smith was close to playing in the USFL in the 2022 season but had an incident involving a little chicken versus pizza debate in the cafeteria. After this, Smith was cut by Pittsburgh Maulers coach Kirby Wilson before the season even began. This is a large reason Smith is one of the familiar Dolphins in the XFL.
