The Florida State Seminoles have had an awful performance on the field thus far into the 2024 season, which has crept off the field.
Yesterday, former top commitment and four-star wide receiver Daylan McCutcheon announced he would be staying home and play for Texas. McCutcheon was previously a hard commitment for the Seminoles for nearly four months, but later opted to join his former teammates on the Longhorns.
While McCutcheon is the most notable player to leave his commitment with the Seminoles, it does not seem like he will be the last. Coach Mike Norvell is commanding what could be a sinking ship after massive expectations were placed upon the program. A season ago, the Seminoles arguably could have made serious noise during bowl season at full strength.

This is on Norvell. He’s a bum. He played FSU and scammed his way to that contract. Guy is a bum

It’s going to keep happening until they get rid of Norvell and the entire coaching staff.

However, this season could not be more of the opposite thus far for the Florida State Seminoles. Between traveling to Ireland to lose a conference game, to paying a team for a game only to lose to that very team. It has been a nightmare season both the Florida State fans and team would like to forget, and there is still half a season left.
Is McCutcheon the First of Many to Exit his Florida State Seminoles Commitments?
While McCutcheon is certainly the most notable player to leave, he likely will not be the last player to announce a change in his decision.
McCutcheon committed to Florida State before his in-state teammates announced their own commitments to the Texas Longhorns. As great as McCutcheon is, holding onto his commitment while his teammates went elsewhere meant the Seminoles had to be elite. Texas has continued to excel and wanted McCutcheon to once again play alongside players he knew, which ultimately was an offer that the receiver could not say not to.
Other players will likely announce their intentions to re-open their recruitment moving forward, however, that will not affect the over life of Seminoles recruiting.
Midseason is often a time when recruits are able to visit games and see what teams look like in person for the first time. This time is difficult for recruits as they must weigh whether or not the staff is good enough to develop players despite not having the on-field results they want. More players will likely commit to other schools as Florida State struggles, but that will also open up opportunities for other players.

Four-star offensive tackle Mario Nash Jr announced his commitment to the Florida State Seminoles despite the 1-5 start. Nash emphasized that he “loves” the place he calls “home” and wants to play for the school despite the issues they may have on-field this season. The future is still bright for the Seminoles, as long as the losing can be contained in the future.
