For all the obstacles the Florida State Seminoles have faced this season, a solid recruiting class for 2025 remained their one glimmer of hope. Unfortunately a 1-9 campaign has put their once glamorous recruiting class in jeopardy. For as poorly as FSU has been this year, you can’t blame these young men for taking their talents elsewhere.
Not to mention, there is extreme doubt if Mike Norvell will even be the coach in Tallahassee next season. This uncertainty, combined with a historically dreadful season, may cause major implications for the program moving forward. It was only a matter of time before the major blue chip athletes would fall. Unfortunately for the Seminoles, that is exactly what happened today.

Say It Ain’t So
Florida State received disastrous news today as another four-star recruit decommited from the football program. The most crushing blow for FSU was the fact that the recruit who decided jump ship was supposed to be “the guy”, dual-threat quarterback Tramell Jones. Jones had been the prized recruit in FSU’s 2025 class for some time, committing to the school all the way back in April of 2023. There has been a lot of speculation that Jones could be heading to Gainesville to become a Gator.
If this rumor is true, that would be a major turn of events that could shake up this epic rivalry in the Sunshine State. Jones has now become the sixth decommitment from the 2025 class for Florida State. FSU still has a mix of four-star guys in the 2025 class, but the loss of Jones has been a huge punch in the gut for their team. Jones had been the cornerstone piece for this class thus far, now he’s practically become a distant memory.
The 2024 season has been a forgettable one for the Florida State Seminoles. A preseason top 10 team has been reduced to one of the worst teams in school history. Tramell Jones was supposed to give the Seminoles plenty of hope heading into 2025.
A four-star passer from Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, seemed like a lock to join Mike Norvell and the Seminoles in 2025. Even with all the struggles the Seminoles have had this season, it seemed unlikely that Jones would change his mind. The aftermath of this announcement sent shockwaves through Seminole nation, hoping this was all just a bad dream. Although the coaching staff will now have to replace their once prized piece, a possible replacement may be arriving sooner than you think.

Will Carter Smith Save The Day?
The Seminoles were dealt a huge blow with the departure of Tramell Jones, but another quarterback could be waiting in the wings. Carter Smith from Bishop Verot High School, a four-star quarterback like Jones, is on the Seminoles radar as we speak. Smith, who decommitted from Michigan back in October, could have a new home any day now.
What a turn of events this would be for the Seminoles if they can pull this rabbit out of their hat. Carter Smith isn’t just another four-star guy, he is the reigning Gatorade Florida Player of the Year. If Smith were to commit to the Seminoles, not only would it provide a major boost to the recruiting class, it could possibly save Mike Norvell’s job. To land a young man who was once committed to the defending national champions would create an insane amount of excitement in Tallahassee.
Time will tell if Carter Smith will end up playing for the Seminoles, but many experts believe his likely destination is Tallahassee. For Seminole fans, they can only hope the experts are right. FSU will look to the 2025 class to save the program from falling into obscurity.
There’s still time for the Seminoles to get back to what they once were, they just need a little help. Considering how bad 2024 has been, the success in 2023 seemed like a lifetime ago. All it takes is for one solid recruiting class to change the trajectory of a program. If you want proof, just ask Urban Meyer and his Florida teams. Florida State is still a big brand name, so there is no reason why they can’t be great again. It could be up to the 2025 class to set the tone and make the Seminoles relevant once again.
