The Florida State Seminoles have had another unsuccessful season in 2025 as they have a 5-6 (2-6 ACC) record heading into their final week. A lot of eyes have been on the coaching staff and if the program will retain coach Mike Norvell for the 2026 season. On Sunday afternoon, the school has reportedly made a decision regarding what they will do with the head coach. Let’s take a deeper dive into what the recent reports are and what it means for the Florida State Seminoles going forward.
Florida State Seminoles Reportedly Keeping Mike Norvell

Despite a second consecutive season where the program has struggled significantly more than projected, Yahoo Sports Ross Dellenger is reporting that the Florida State Seminoles are having Mike Norvell return as coach for the 2026 season. The program also issued a statement where Norvell commented on his commitment to the school.
“This program has been built on belief, sacrifice, and putting the team first. That set of values has always guided my actions, and those of our players. The driving motivation behind this is to make certain that we are doing everything properly to obtain and retain elite players, add critical pieces, and sustain long-term success. I love Florida State, and I am fully committed to this program, and our shared goals.”
Mike Norvell has been the coach of the Seminoles since the 2020 season, when he left the Memphis Tigers, since then, he has a 38-33 record and is 1-1 in bowl games. Norvell’s current contract has him signed through the 2031 season and if he were to be fired, the school would have to pay 85% of his remaining salary as his buyout.
It will be interesting to see how the Seminoles look going forward with a bought-in approach on Norvell for the future of the program.
