Urban Meyer thinks Alabama will be in the College Football Playoff

Florida Gators: Sorry Gator Fans But The Great Urban Meyer Stated “That Ship Has Sailed” On Possibly Returning Back To Florida

Florida is experiencing a rough start to their season after dropping two games to Miami, and Texas A&M. Head coach Billy Napier was on the hot seat to start the season, and now it looks like he will be out of work soon.

The Gators are heading down a bad road, and when they do fire Napier, star players like quarterback DJ Lagway could hit the transfer portal; some have suggested that the program needs to hire a head coach who will be able to keep players like Lagway and their other stars.

One name that keeps getting brought up to coach Florida is Urban Meyer, who coached them in the mid-2000s, winning two titles.

The program hasn’t been the same since Meyer left in 2010. Many Gator fans want the 60-year-old head coach back and wish he could come in and make the program elite again.

Meyer hadn’t coached any form of football since 2021, when he coached the Jacksonville Jaguars and was fired in the middle of the season for doing a terrible job.

The three-time national champion head coach last walked a college football sideline in 2018 with Ohio State, but medical complications caused him to step down.

Meyer is currently an analyst on Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff show and seems to be loving the job; he doesn’t seem to want to get back into coaching at the moment.

Meyer was on the Triple Option podcast and discussed whether he would return to coach Florida and stated, “That ship has sailed.”

Nick Kosko from On3.com stated Meyer’s full quote about not wanting to return to the Gators, and here is what the former head coach had to say.

“That ship has sailed,” Meyer said on The Triple Option. “I want that program to do well, so bad. I know so many people there and we gave a big part of our life to that program. But that ship has sailed.”

The dream is dead for all Florida fans who wanted Meyer back with the Gators. Florida will most likely be the top coaching job this offseason, and they could get a great current college football coach.

Keep an eye on Ole Miss Lane Kiffin as a possible new coach of the Gators and college football analyst Josh Pate stated,” Kiffin would walk to Florida in a heartbeat if offered the job.
