Florida used to dominate college football in the mid-2000s with head coach Urban Meyer and quarterback Tim Tebow.
The Gators were the team nobody could stop, and they went on to win two national championships; when Meyer left in 2010, the program went downhill and never recovered.
Now, in 2024, Florida has faced many rough challenges, and they just had one last week when they got destroyed by Miami in the swamp 41-17.
It was not a good day to be a Gator, and head coach Billy Napier has a lot of work to do the rest of the season if he wants to keep his job.
Napier is now in year three with the program, and there is a great chance he won’t see his fourth season if his team plays like they did the rest of the year that we saw this past weekend.
Urban Meyer knows a thing or two about winning in Gainesville, and he had a lot of things to say about this year’s current Gators team on The Triple Option Podcast.
Urban Meyer States, It’s Painful To Watch Florida
In an article from On3.com, Thomas Goldkamp mentions a podcast interview with the former head coach. At the end of the game on Saturday, Miami football players approached Florida recruits who were watching the game from the sidelines and yelled at them to come to Miami.
Florida staffers were trying their hardest to keep the Miami players away from the recruits, and Meyer had some thoughts about the recruiting battle in Florida. “The intensity of that recruiting, I lived it for six years,” Meyer said. “Every player you get on the phone with, every player you go see it comes down to you and the ‘U.’ And Florida State, obviously. But that’s the way it should be. I mean I have a vested interest in Florida, that’s painful to watch that.”

Meyer was not happy seeing Miami players trying to get Florida recruits to come to Miami right after they got a huge win on the Gator’s field.
Maimi players would’ve never been able to do that when Meyer was coaching Florida because the Gators would beat them, and it most likely would’ve been the other way around with Gator players yelling at Miami recruits to come to their school.
It doesn’t sound good for Florida and Napier, and when opposing teams come in and start pursuing your recruits, it shows that the program is broken and something has to be done.
