The Florida Gators had a sub par season in 2024.  They finished 8-5 overall, 4-4 in the division, and 10th in the SEC.  It will be interesting to see what kind of changes Florida makes this off-season to get back into contention.

However, one freshman running back is facing accusations that could create a divide in the locker room.

In all the wrong ways, Anthony Rubio, the son of Florida Senator Marco Rubio, is gaining a lot of attention on social media:

Rubio is in his first season with the Florida Gators, and thousands of people online are not happy with him being on the team.

His name began trending after one X user pointed out that his father is Marco Rubio.

The post pointed out that Anthony Rubio, who is 5-foot-9 and 165 pounds and plays the running back position, is benefiting from nepotism and DEI.

“Want to see nepotism and a DEI?” the post started out saying.

“Meet Anthony Rubio, the son of @marcorubio. He plays for the Florida Gators. He’s a 5’9, 165 running back who is on the team despite not even starting for his private high school team. We know why.”
