The Florida football program will enter the final game of their September schedule with a 1-2 record. The Florida Gators are still likely licking their wounds after last weekend’s abysmal 33-20 home loss against the Texas A&M Aggies, with the opposing backfield rushing for a ludicrous 310 yards. Conversely, the Florida offense threw for just 249 yards despite playing from behind for all but the game’s first five minutes. The Gators’ offense struggled for the second time in three games this season and could again labor on Saturday against the Mississippi State Bulldogs with their star receiver set to miss his second straight contest.
The Florida football team’s receiving core will be short-handed on Saturday, with wideout Eugene Wilson ruled out for the SEC tilt. Wilson leads the team in receptions, albeit playing just two of the team’s three games this year. Many fans believe that Wilson’s injury status and subsequent meniscus surgery is a precursor to a redshirt season and, ultimately, his transfer from the program.
Florida Football Fans Panic With Potential Eugene Wilson Transfer Looming
According to Graham Hall of 247Sports:#Gators WR Eugene Wilson had surgery to repair a meniscus injury suffered in UF’s 45-7 win over Samford, @Swamp_247 has learned.
With Wilson going under the knife, he will miss this weekend’s matchup against the Mississippi State Bulldogs and will likely miss more time. A fringe top-15 wide receiver prospect in the 2023 class, the pass-catcher is the son of two-time Super Bowl champion and former Illinois Fighting Illini star Eugene Wilson. The younger Wilson earned first-team All-SEC Freshman honors after posting 61 catches, 538 yards, and six touchdowns. Before his surgery this week, Wilson collected a team-best 13 receptions for 191 yards and a score.
Wilson’s injury could place him on the shelf for the foreseeable future, alarming news for a team already nursing a 1-2 record. Many Florida football fans believe that Wilson’s injury and surgery recovery could stretch well into the season, making him a candidate for a medical redshirt. Some of those same fans went as far as expressing their worry about Wilson using the medical redshirt as a springboard to transfer from the program:

He won’t play another down at UF. Can’t say I blame him

He will be playing at 100 health when he suits up for Bama next year

Willing to bet it could’ve been delayed but hey, since he wants Napier fired why not now. He’ll be ready for next coach or team.

Yeah I’d say he’s transferring 😂🤮🤦🏼♂️
