The Top 100 Players of 2022 will be completed on Sunday night when the Top 20 will be released. No Saints will be featured at the top-half of the list, but New Orleans saw five of its players make the cut in this year’s ranking. Here are the five New Orleans Saints that was featured on the Top 100 Players of 2022:
No. 51: Alvin Kamara, Running Back
Alvin Kamara saw a massive drop in his ranking from the Top 100 Players of 2021 list last year. The former Tennessee product was ranked No. 14 on last year’s list. Kamara’s drop in the rankings can be hinted at his touchdown regression in the 2021 season when New Orleans was going through a quarterback carousel.
The star running back missed out on four games last season due to injury. Despite the absence, Kamara led the Saints in both rushing and receiving for the second consecutive season. He rushed for 898 yards on a career-high 284 carries with four touchdowns. The former Tennessee product hauled in a team-best 47 receptions for 439 yards with five touchdowns. Kamara would earn his fifth consecutive Pro Bowl selection in 2021.
No. 69: Cam Jordan, Defensive End
Cam Jordan saw a drop in the rankings as he went from being ranked No. 46 last year to No. 69 in this year’s list. The 33-year old defensive end added another stellar season in 2021 that led to his seventh Pro Bowl selection.
The former California product finished last season with 59 tackles, 12.5 sacks, 13 tackles for loss, 22 quarterback hits, six passes defended and two forced fumbles. Jordan would finish the 2021 season with 107 career sacks, which puts him second in the team’s all-time sack list.
No. 70: Tyrann Mathieu, Safety
The newly acquired Saint continues to slide in the Top 100 Players list. In 2020, Mathieu was ranked No. 39 and in 2021 was No. 58. The ‘Honey Badger’ lands himself on this year’s list at No. 70. The New Orleans native will get a chance to play for his home state and look to make an impact on the Saints defense that has high expectations heading into 2022.
During the 2021 season, Mathieu racked up 76 total tackles, 57 solo tackles, one sack, three pass deflections and three interceptions. The star safety was selected to the Pro Bowl and was named one of the team captains for the AFC.
No. 74: Demario Davis, Linebacker
Demario Davis dropped 10 spots from last year’s ranking going from No. 64 to No. 74. Davis continued to be the workhorse of the Saints defense in 2021. The star linebacker is yet to be selected to the Pro Bowl, but if he continues to put up big numbers it will only be a matter of time before that changes.
In 2021, Davis piled up 105 total tackles, 61 solo tackles, three sacks and seven pass deflections. The 33-year old linebacker played a key role in the Saints defense that ranked fourth in opponents yards per game. New Orleans would also rank first in the NFL in opponent red zone touchdown percentage and fourth in scoring defense.
No. 89: Marshon Lattimore, Cornerback
Marshon Lattimore saw a sudden decrease in his ranking going from No. 86 to No. 89 on the Top 100 Players list from 2021 to 2022. The former Ohio State product had another stellar season in 2021 that led to his fourth Pro Bowl Selection.
The 26-year old cornerback racked up 68 total tackles, 55 solo tackles, three interceptions, 19 passes defended and one fumble recovery. Lattimore continues to make his mark as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL.
