The FIU football program has lost 18 straight games to FBS teams. The Texas State Bobcats are the first FBS team they play this season. FIU and Texas State are similar football programs. They can beat Texas State. Texas State beat them in overtime last year, 23-17.
Be careful of a team on a losing streak
FIU Quarterback Max Bortenschlager threw an INT and running back D’Vonte Price lost two fumbles in last year’s game. Bortenschlager threw for 254 yards and 2 TD’s so Texas State is vulnerable. Last year, Chambers caught four passes for 78 yards and a touchdown. Joseph is the starting RB and will also return kickoffs while Chambers will return punts. A season preview of the Texas State football team from College Football news reports that the offense is designed a la Kliff Kingsbury’s “Air Raid” but it doesn’t work well.

FIU can get the season started off right with a win
Both football programs need to win this game. Texas State is ranked #12 out of the 12 FBS teams in the state. The University of Houston (check out Tony Thomas’ UH-UTSA game preview in the link) is the most popular team according to Greg McElroy. FIU is ranked as the least popular FBS team in Florida according to the End of Season power rankings by StateoftheU.com In the 1991 movie, “Necessary Roughness”, Texas State quarterback (not this Texas State) Paul Blake, told the team, “You’re hurt, you’re tired, you’re bleeding but I’m gonna make you a promise–you get into that endzone, you’re not gonna feel any pain.” My prediction is FIU wins the game for Coach Mike MacIntyre, 31-21.
