The Pittsburgh Steelers won an absolute thriller against the Cincinatti Bengals on Sunday. But they only got to that result in large part due to one of their members of the secondary. Minkah Fitzpatrick has been named AFC Defensive Player of the Week.
Fitzpatrick set the tone early recording a pick-six off a Joe Burrow pass on the Bengals first drive of the game. After a Cam Heyward sack, Fitzpatrick picked off Burrow and returned it 31 yards to the house to give the Steelers a 7-0 lead. Minkah also ended the contest with 14 total tackles.
Fitzpatrick also made his presence felt on special teams with the biggest play of the game. Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase scored a 6-yardtouchdown with two seconds left in regulation. Fitzpatrick ran untouched and blocked the extra point to keep the game tied at 20 to force overtime. The Steelers would eventually win the game off a Chris Boswell 53-yard field goal as time expired.
Fitzpatrick has had many great moments for the black and gold since being acquired from the Miami Dolphins. With reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year T.J. Watt out for several weeks, the Steelers will need Minkah and company to continue to make plays.
