Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have started off their quest to three-peat as Super Bowl champions on a very positive note.
Through the first five weeks of the 2024 NFL season, the Chiefs are 5-0. Once again, they are finding ways to win tough games. That magic has not left them just yet.
However, there are a couple of things that could hamper Kansas City’s ability to win a third straight championship. There are issues that the team will have to address throughout the season if they want to make another playoff run.
1 Fatal Flaw Could Ruin Kansas City Chiefs’ Three-Peat Dreams
In a recent article on Yardbarker, Clark Dalton took a look at one potential fatal flaw for each team in the AFC West. When it came to the Chiefs, he has one that certainly makes sense.
Dalton believes that Kansas City’s lack of wide receiver depth could be their undoing.
“A lack of quality WRs is impacting QB Patrick Mahomes, who has averaged a career-low 247 passing yards per game through five starts. The Chiefs (5-0) should consider acquiring another wideout before the Nov. 5 trade deadline, perhaps Amari Cooper of the Cleveland Browns or DeAndre Hopkins of the Tennessee Titans.”
Speaking of potential trades for wide receivers, the Kansas City Chiefs have received a lot of chatter as a potential buyer. Adding a talent like either Hopkins or Cooper would be huge.
Even a smaller name would make a ton of sense. A name like Kendrick Bourne of the New England Patriots might be enough of an impact piece to help the Chiefs get through their current issues.
That being said, Kansas City has never shied away from making the big move. If Hopkins or Cooper ends up being available at a reasonable price, the Chiefs would not hesitate to pull the trigger on a trade.
Expect to continue hearing the Kansas City Chiefs be mentioned as a potential destination for an impact wide receiver on the trade market. Adding one would certainly make Mahomes happy.
