The start of the NFL season is officially less than a week away. With that includes the start of millions of fantasy football leagues, a time filled with hope of many to win a championship of their own. Most drafts have concluded, but whether your league has waited to draft or has already done so, its important to know who will outperform their Average Draft Position. These are my picks of guys I’m leaving every draft with or aggressively trading to acquire, whom will outperform their current ADP.
Trey Lance, San Fransisco 49ers, ADP QB13
Its hard to fathom a former first round pick with this much potential is taken as the first backup in a 12 man league. Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers are so enamored by Lance that they are benching their recurrent playoff starter, Jimmy Garoppolo, in favor of the athletic young QB. Lance started two games in his rookie year, and while he didn’t light up the league with his play, he showed the fantasy world he has what it takes to be a fantasy stud. The mobility, the amount of weapons Lance has at his disposal, and his top tier play caller has me all in on the sophomore QB. It won’t be surprising for Lance to finish top 10, or even top 5, with the amount positives surrounding his play. Pounce on him early in drafts or trade for him before its too late.
J.K. Dobbins, Baltimore Ravens, ADP RB22
The injury concerns are understandable when it comes to Dobbins; however, at RB 22, you are likely making your second or even third RB selection which gives you some wiggle room. Gus Edwards being placed on the PUP list takes him out for the first 4 games, which means this backfield is Dobbins’s to take over in Baltimore. He had 6.7 yards/carry in his rookie season, but he split carries with Mark Ingram, causing his fantasy totals to drop. With no one to steal carries from him, aside from his QB, Dobbins will easily exceed over 1000 yards in this high powered offense. There’s no doubt he will finish ahead of guys like Josh Jacobs, David Montgomery, and Ezekiel Elliot.
Brandin Cooks, Houston Texans, ADP WR20
Every season Cooks deals with the negative reports surrounding his QB play. This year is no different with Davis Mills under center for the Texans. However, Davis Mills has been better than most give him credit for in a rather lackluster situation. That situation will lead the Texans to be down in most games leading to extra passing attempts for the second year QB. The Texans clear cut WR1 has had at least 1000 receiving yards and 65 catches in 6 of the last 7 seasons. Cooks has a better fantasy outlook than other top WRs such as D.K. Metcalf, Terry McClaurin, and DJ Moore, all of whom have questionable QB situations at best.
