Fantasy Football Overreactions – NFL Week One

NFL Week One is in the books. There were upsets, blowouts and very close games! With crazy offensive and defensive performances! There was an abundance of terrible kicking! With so much football to watch it’s easy to miss things. These are some of my Week One Fantasy Football Overreactions!

    The Good Overreactions:

Justin Jefferson will be WR1 this year:

With an absolutely dominant game, Jefferson put up incredible numbers. Leading the Minnesota Vikings to victory over the Green Bay Packers. With a stat line of 9-184-2, Justin was more than 50% of the Vikings receiving yards. His 9 receptions, 184 yards and 2 Touchdowns were amazing. He looks primed to pay off on his high draft cost.

         Saquon Barkley is back:

After many fluke injuries keeping him off the field, Saquon returned and looked electric. He was the driving force in the New York Giants offense, leading the Giants to victory over the Tennessee Titans. Barkley had an impressive stat line of 18-164-1 rushing, with 7 receptions and 30 receiving yards to top it off. Saquon Barkley may be a league winner this year. If he continues to put up numbers like this, his finish could far surpass his 2022 ADP (Average Draft Position).

Patrick Mahomes is still Patrick Mahomes:

The question of whether Mahomes could lead the Kansas City Chiefs offense to the same heights seems to be answered. That answer is Yes. The Chiefs absolutely outclassed the Arizona Cardinals with Patrick leading the charge. Confidence in drafting Mahomes was shaken with the loss of Tyreek Hill, but with a performance like this, the doubters will be silenced. His stat line of 30-360-5 was phenomenal. 360 yards on 30 attempts with 5 Touchdowns was fantastic. Not to mention the 3 rushing attempts for 5 yards, just to be the icing on top.

    The Bad Overreactions:

DJ Moore left us wanting more:

The Carolina Panthers lost in Week one. The revenge game for their QB went up in smoke. Smoke was all DJ Moore was as well. He was drafted in the 4th or 5th round and if Robbie Anderson continues to be the go to pass catcher, Moore will end up useless. Carolina’s offense doesn’t appear to have enough passing attempts to satisfy Anderson, Moore and McCaffrey. Dj Moore’s stat line of 3-43-0 left a lot to be desired. He was already considered a safety pick, and not an upside pick. If you take away that safe point floor he previously had, then DJ Moore will have been a terrible draft pick.

         Alvin Kamara was awful:

Kamara’s ADP skyrocketed near the end of August as more and more news came out expecting him not to be punished this season. He ended up at the top of the second round in many Fantasy drafts. Paying a second round price for a stat line of 9-39-0 rushing and 4-7-0 receiving can be a mistake that loses your year. If he continues to be way underutilized, he could be the biggest Fantasy Football bust this year.

         Aaron Rodgers stunk:

Aaron Rodgers’ offseason was rough. He lost one of the best WRs in the NFL. I didn’t expect him to be great this year, but he looked bad. While Aaron was generally drafted outside the Top 12 QBs, it was still an awful performance for anyone who started him. Finishing with a stat line of just 22-195-0, he was one of the worst QBs you could have started. In addition to having terrible production, he also threw an Interception, got sacked 4 times, and lost a fumble. While some of the plays may not have been directly his fault, they still count for Fantasy Football.

With Week One of the 2022 NFL season completed, there’s still a lot to consider. These were my Week One Fantasy Football Overreactions.
