Green Bay Packers fans face some tragic news concerning their former franchise QB; Super Bowl winning, Hall of Fame inductee, Brett Favre.
Along with Aaron Rodgers, Favre is the most recognizable player in a Packers uniform since the days of Bart Starr, and has long been revered by Green Bay and NFL fans alike.
His reputation off the field for non Wisconsinites has been, well, complicated. However, he still reigns strong in the hearts of the Packers (including mine), and his prowess on the field cannot be denied.
Sadly, Favre received a brutal medical prognosis earlier on Tuesday, with Adam Schefter reporting that the 3 x NFL MVP has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

Brett Favre Reveals He Has Been Diagnosed With Parkinson’s Disease
In an address to congress in regards to the Mississippi State scandal, Favre spoke about how the funds that were reportedly “misused” were actually defrauded out of him by a company that was supposedly developing groundbreaking medical drugs, stating:
“Sadly, I also lost an investment in a company that I believed was developing a breakthrough concussion drug I thought would help others.
And I’m sure you’ll understand whilst it’s too late for me, because I have recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s.
This is also a cause near to my heart; recently, the doctor running the company pleaded guilty to taking money for his own use.”
How Did Fans React To This Sad Favre News?
There was obviously an initial outpouring of warmth and sympathy from much of the media and people online devastated by the news, especially for a man who is just 54 years old.
Sad news: #NFL HOFer Brett Favre announced he has Parkinson’s disease at 54. He’s also said he believes he has #CTE.
Among those w/CTE who had signs of Parkinsonism, only 24% had ‘classic’ Parkinson’s. For 76%, it appears their symptoms are caused by CTE

Other fans felt less sympathy towards the former hoister of the Lombardi Trophy, pointing to his opinion-splitting record on a variety of issues.
The sad thing about Brett Favre having Parkinsons is that he stole money from people on welfare.

Brett Favre using Parkinson to justify his theft from the poorest of poor. Gotta be an all time low 😑 who’s advising him. There are 50 states in the union guess where Mississippi ranks in the poorest ?
Number 1 😑🤦🏾♀️. Like he should he embarrassed but that takes awareness pic.twitter.com/Top5p6jQH6— Kathia Woods (@kathia_woods) September 24, 2024
Brett Favre says he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease as he’s crying about losing money after investing in a company whose founder pleaded guilty in for fraudulently taking money from the government.
Especially ironic since Brett Favre did the same thing.

And another fan pointed to what has been perhaps a wider issue in football.
Brett Favre is a loathsome person, but today he testified that he has Parkinson’s and then said of concussions, “I’ve had hundreds, maybe thousands throughout my career, which is frightening.”
Football is a profoundly antisocial and inhumane enterprise.https://t.co/fKhnzshqLR pic.twitter.com/HhlQHJMcss

Although this is perhaps an overstatement, much of the recent research on concussions and player safety has transformed the way that the game is played; from more stringent ‘Roughing The Passer’ penalties to the abolishing of head-to-head contact on tackles, the game is not the same one that Brett Favre played over 2 decades ago.
Regardless, it is a very sad day for the football world and Favre himself, and hopefully he is able to utilize the time he has best as enjoyably as he can.
