The San Francisco 49ers missed the playoffs this season with a 6-11 record after just being a couple of plays away from winning the Super Bowl last year against the Kansas City Chiefs. There are a lot of decisions that the 49ers will have to make before the start of next season.
With head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch back, it will be interesting to see who the 49ers starting quarterback will be in 2025. Brock Purdy is due for a new contract and it will be interesting to see if they will keep him or decide to pursue someone else next year.
San Francisco 49ers General Manager John Lynch Doubles Down On Brock Purdy Moving Forward
On Wednesday, 49ers general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan met with the media. Lynch talked about the future of Purdy with the franchise. John Lynch said:
“What we know about Brock is that he’s our guy. We have interest in him being around for a long, long time.”
These are very interesting comments from him. Brock Purdy did not have a great 2024 season and he missed the last game against the Arizona Cardinals due to injury. Purdy this season completed 65.9% of his passes for 3,864 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
There were injuries on the 49ers roster including running back Christian McCaffrey, but it doesn’t hide the fact that Brock Purdy didn’t perform well this season. San Francisco should think long and hard before doubling down on Purdy for a long-term deal.

9ers have signed a handful of very bad contracts here as of late & it looks like they’re about to do another one. I get it…w/ this one they are really up against it but the second kyle shanahan is not running this offense, purdy will look average on a weekly basis

If Lynch keeps screwing with players they’re never going to get anyone that wants to go there, already losing the locker room, it’ll get worse

I wish they were letting him free. 49ers fans deserve another two decades of QB hell.

Will be a massive mistake, you thought this year was bad? Wait till that scrub gets paid.
These mid tier qbs getting these contracts is wild— NFLbreakdowns718🟡🟢) (@NFLBreakdownsNY) January 8, 2025
Many of these fans agree that Brock Purdy does not deserve to be paid $50-$60 million a season by the San Francisco 49ers. They are better off not giving him a contract extension yet. San Francisco should wait until after the 2025 season to see if they should give him that extension or not. Purdy is only 25 years old.
