The Atlanta Falcons are coming off a sloppy win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday Night. 15-9 was the final as Atlanta got back to .500 (7-7). They’re just one game behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-6) for first place in the NFC South.
That being said, Atlanta decided to make a major change at a crucial point in the season.

The math:
If the Falcons were to cut Kirk Cousins prior to the start of the 2025 league year, they would have $65 million in dead money.
If they were to trade him, the $27.5M base salary guarantee would transfer over to the acquiring team, so then the Falcons would just be responsible for the $37.5M of proration.
