The Cleveland Browns have a 2-6 record this NFL season. They are coming off a bye week this week and will be facing the New York Jets (1-7 record) on the road.

Cleveland decided to make a change for the upcoming weeks. Head coach Kevin Stefanski decided to give up the play calling duties and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees will be calling the plays instead. There are a lot of fans who do not like this move anyways. Rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel will remain the starting quarterback for the Browns for now entering week nine of the NFL season.

Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry watch practice from the sideline during Day 2 of rookie minicamp May 10, 2025, in Berea.

The Browns are one of the worst teams in the NFL once again this season. Cleveland could be on the verge of getting a top five pick once again. Chad Graff and Josh Kendall of the Athletic have the Browns ranked 28th in the latest power rankings. They said about the Browns being really bad once again this season,

“On the one hand, expectations were low. The Browns are still stuck with the contract anchor that is Deshaun Watson. On the other hand, this offense hasn’t even lived up to the low bar it was supposed to clear. We figured the passing game would be tough to watch — and it is — but the run game (30th in success rate) was supposed to be a lot better, perhaps part of why Kevin Stefanski is handing off play-calling duties.”

There are a lot of Cleveland fans who believe that Stefanski gave play calling duties to Rees is because so he can find another scapegoat once the 2025 NFL season ends. However, if the Browns were to lose to the Jets this week, there is a good chance that Stefanski could very well get fired once the 2025 NFL season ends.

General manager Andrew Berry should also be on the hot seat as well. They have both been with this organization since the 2020 NFL season. There is a good chance that the Browns franchise may move off of them once the season ends. Also, a lot of the issues with Cleveland is owner Jimmy Haslam as well.
