The Texas Longhorns are ranked #11 in the first college football playoff rankings of the season. Texas has a 7-2 record this season and they will have to win out if they want to make it to the postseason.

The final three games of the season for the Longhorns will be against the Georgia Bulldogs, the Arkansas Razorbacks, and the Texas A&M Aggies. Head coach Steve Sarkisian has led this program to the playoffs for the last two seasons. He is in his fifth season with Texas. If even they were to miss the playoffs this season, Sarkisian is not going anywhere. This program is going to be in good hands for a while with him as the head coach of this football team.
Texas Longhorns HC Steve Sarkisian Has Harsh Words For Other Football Programs

Sarkisian is well aware of the head coaching firings that has been occurring in the SEC Conference. The Florida Gators fired Billy Napier, the LSU Tigers fired Brian Kelly, and the Auburn Tigers fired Hugh Freeze. Also, the Penn State Nittany Lions fired James Franklin, and the Virginia Tech Hokies fired Brent Pry.
The Texas head coach spoke to the media about all of these firings that have been happening. Sarkisian said,
“Everybody wants to fire their coach. Who you gonna hire? There’s all these jobs out there right now. Who’s everybody gonna hire? I don’t know. We’ll find out. Somebody’s gotta be the head coach. The amount of ‘one week you’re a hero, the next week you’re a zero’ mentality that fan bases and people want to have — surely coaches want some security to what they signed up to go do.”
Luckily for him, he is not on the hot seat at all. Texas is in a much better spot as a program in year five with him coaching than what it was when Sarkisian first took the job. The Longhorns are back on the national map, and they will stay that way for a while.
With that being said, it will be interesting to see who these other football programs are going to be hiring as head coach. It is understandable why the Texas head coach felt this way. The Longhorns should be lucky they have a good leader in the locker room with Sarkisian even though this year has not gone as planned for them because of the way quarterback Arch Manning has played.
