“ESPN’s 3-year Plan To Destroy RedZone”: NFL Fan Criticizes ESPN For Potentially Ruining NFL Red Zone With Potential New TV Deal

Ever since 2009, NFL fans have loved watching NFL Red Zone on Sunday afternoons with Scott Hanson. When the 2025 NFL season kickoffs, there will be many fans who will be tuning into the show once again.

There have been fans who have also criticized coverage of the sport on ESPN. Well, there was shocking news on Friday that has NFL fans freaking out about the future of Red Zone.

One NFL Fan Believes That ESPN Would Destroy NFL Red Zone

Daniel Chavkin of sportingnews.com reported on Friday,

“The NFL and ESPN have been in discussions regarding the league’s TV properties, and the two sides have finally struck a deal.

The Athletic’s Adam Marchand reports the two sides have come to an agreement that will give ESPN access to much of the NFL’s media properties in exchange for equity in the company. The deal includes the fate of the NFL Network and the RedZone channel, which will now be under control of the league’s former TV rivals.”

A lot of NFL fans don’t like the idea of ESPN owning red zone and potentially ruining that channel. It has been known for its commercial free football for seven hours on Sundays during the NFL regular season led by Hanson. Joe Beldner said on his Twitter page about ESPN potentially ruining the red zone channel that everyone loves,

“ESPN’s 3-year plan to destroy RedZone: Year 1: no more commercial-free football Year 2: replaces the term “witching hour” with something that promotes ESPN+ Year 3: replaces Scott Hanson with Kendrick Perkins”

A lot of people who watch ESPN don’t like Perkins because he is terrible with NBA coverage on ESPN. That would be the worst thing in the world if this happened to NFL fans. Hanson is a legend, and everyone loves him, and Perkins is not so well liked.

Other Fans React To That Statement

No way it takes 3 years to destroy the product.
You underestimate ESPN’s ability and determination to fck up something…anything that’s right and good.

This is exactly what I expect to happen. This acquisition by ESPN is going to end up really bad for everyone who loves the NFL and RedZone.

    — JT BREW 🏈 (@jtorange) August 2, 2025

Commercial-free football with endless ESPN BET ads

    — Sonny (@action_junkie) August 2, 2025

ESPN can ruin just about anything. These all seem farfetched until they’re not.

    — justin (@justnbreeden) August 2, 2025

You left put the part where it will require an ESPN+ subscription AND you’ll have to pay a monthly fee separately for redzone.

    — Tim Hoppe (@CoachHoppe) August 2, 2025

Well, it will be interesting to see where this all goes in the coming months ahead. It will not be an issue for the upcoming 2025 NFL season with Red Zone, but it could be different for the 2026 NFL season and beyond.
