Elon Musk, despite being a key player in the success of Trump in 2024, would not at all impact the chances of the Republicans come 2028, at least according to Fox News host Will Cain.
In one of the recent episodes of “The Stephen A. Smith Show,” the ESPN analyst asked if Cain is worried that the fallout between Elon Musk and Donald Trump would endanger the odds of the Republicans come 2028 elections.
Cain said that he is not, and he went on to explain why he thinks that Musk’s role in Trump’s victory, while significant, is not at all that huge.
“Look, you can do two things at the same time,” he said. “You can give Elon Musk a ton of credit for the role he played, the money he spent in electing Donald Trump, but I personally think Donald Trump would have trounced Kamala Harris without Elon Musk.”

The problem, as Cain noted, is not money but that the Democrats do not have a strong candidate to start with.
“And right now, and I wouldn’t put it beyond the realm of possibility that Elon Musk does go out there, maybe he does give money to third parties. Maybe he even gives money to Democrats. But you could give all the money in the world. But you could give all the money in the world to I don’t know, pick your lowest level franchise [in the NFL] and it’s not going to make them an overnight champion.”

Cain also noted how right now, the Democratic party has no strong candidates that could potentially stand a chance in beating whoever Trump would set up as his successor, or himself, if his administration succeeds in finding their way around the Constitution for a third term
Commentator Says Democracy May Not Be Working For Elon Musk
In the same episode, Will Cain also explored the root cause of the fallout between Elon Musk and Donald Trump. While he praised Musk for his genius, he also highlighted how this made him not work with how politics and government work.
“But Elon is also someone quirky, used to getting things done solely sometimes, or at least through his singular vision,” Cain said. “And that’s just not going to be possible in government. It’s certainly not going to be possible in democracy.”
“Democracy is messy and full of people of different opinions. And some of those are even within what people think is a monolith, one party, Republicans. But it’s not a monolith. It’s a mix.”

Prior to his fallout with Trump, Elon Musk had resigned from his role at the Department of Government Efficiency, but initially expressed that he would remain in a consultancy role.
