Saquon Barkley had one of the greatest first seasons ever with the Philadelphia Eagles. En route to establishing himself as the best running back in the league, winning offensive player of the year, and breaking multiple records, he also brought home the Lombardi Trophy.
However, a recent retirement comment sent the entire fan base into a frenzy.
Breaking: Eagles’ Saquon Barkley’s Retirement Comment Sends Entire Fan Base Into Frenzy

Saquon Barkley may be in the prime of his career, but that doesn’t guarantee he will stay around for the long haul:
Barkley proved that he’s a generational talent during the 2024 NFL season, rushing for over 2,000 yards and helping the Philadelphia Eagles win a Super Bowl. Earlier this week, his incredible campaign was rewarded by EA Sports. He’ll officially grace the cover of Madden NFL 26.
Shortly after being named Madden’s latest cover athlete, Barkley made headlines because of a remark he made about retiring.
While on the “Green Light” podcast, Barkley was asked if he’ll play football until the wheels fall off. He told former NFL star Chris Long that his retirement will most likely come out of nowhere.
“I’ll probably be one of those guys that it’ll be out of nowhere,” Barkley said. “I’ll probably just wake up one day, whether it’s next year or two years or four years, and just be like, ‘Yeah it’s over.’ I don’t think I will ever lose that passion. The competitive nature is always going to be there.

“My favorite player of all time is Barry Sanders. Probably something similar to that. I’ll be balling and just be like, ‘Yeah,’ and call it quits.”
NFL fans had an awful lot to say about Barkley’s retirement remarks.
“I just know he would’ve retired wayyyy sooner if he still was on the Giants,” one fan commented.
Another fan said, “Sanders was 30 when he retired. Saquon is closing in on 29…”
“Let’s at least get another 4 years in first before you make any wild decisions Saquon,” an Eagles fan replied.
“I’m giving him 2 years,” a fan declared.
Barkley, the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year, has 9,594 career yards from scrimmage and 62 total touchdowns. If he continues to play at an MVP level, he could solidify his status as a Hall of Famer.
That is, of course, if Barkley holds off from retiring.
