Jalen Hurts has worked out well for the Eagles. After being taken in the second round of the 2020 draft, Hurts is now one of the best quarterbacks in the league and was an MVP contender this season. As with every player on a rookie contract, teams know they will have to pay to keep good players around. The Eagles are gearing to pay Jalen Hurts a huge amount in his new contract.

    Jalen Hurts New Contract

With the rising salary cap and then nature of contracts, the Eagles are gearing up to pay Hurts $50 million a year or more. Every time a young quarterback signs a new deal, it resets the market. The next guy usually gets even more. With Justin Herbert, Joe Burrow, and Lamar Jackson set to be paid soon, expect a lot of huge contracts to be handed out.

Eagles Should Get This Done Soon

The Eagles should move quickly. If they can sign Hurts before some of the others, they may be able to save a little cash. If they drag their feet, they may end up paying even more. The star rookie quarterback is the greatest asset in football. If GMs can spend money on other parts of the roster instead of the quarterback, the team can be loaded. Look at the Eagles and 49ers. Both of those teams are loaded with talent mostly because they are not playing a huge chunk of the salary to a quarterback.

If Hurts leads the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory, I expect a deal to be imminent. The team will want to lock Jalen Hurts down for the long term. All teams dream of having the quarterback position figured out for the future and the Eagles look to have a great one on their hands.
