For the third time in 2022, an Eagle has taken home Player of the Week honors. This time, it is veteran defensive end Brandon Graham.
BG’s Resurgence After a Shortened 2021
Graham finished his day with a team high 2.5 sacks, two TFLs, and a forced fumble. The Eagles defensive line had a field day against Washington, finishing with nine sacks, eight TFLs, and two forced fumbles as a team. Other productive Eagles defensive linemen were Fletcher Cox, Josh Sweat, and Haason Reddick.
This was a much-needed performance for Graham, who suffered a season-ending torn Achilles in 2021. The thirteen-year veteran is a team captain and one of the team’s emotional leaders, so his rebound in week three is a great sign for the Eagles defense.
Player of the Week Becoming a Trend in Philly
This is the third time this season an Eagle has taken home Player of the Week honors. In week one, Zech McPhearson earned NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for recovering a surprise onside kick and making two tackles on special teams against the Lions. Then in week two, Darius Slay was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after recording two interceptions and five passes defensed against Minnesota, locking down star receiver Justin Jefferson in the process.
Following a poor showing from the Eagles defense in week one, these last two weeks have been encouraging. The Eagles have given up just two touchdowns while recording three interceptions, 11 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
Moving forward, the Eagles will continue to rely on their defensive front to dominate opponents. Veteran Fletcher Cox has looked as good as ever, and should continue to generate pressure from the interior of the line. Meanwhile, rookie Jordan Davis has shown flashes as a pass rusher, a supposed weak point of his going into the 2022 draft. Haason Reddick and Josh Sweat have been heavy contributors for the pass rush as well. The Eagles have always valued depth on the defensive line, and so far in 2022, that depth has paid off handsomely.
