The Philadelphia Eagles shocked the NFL on Tuesday when news was announced that they were trading away a Super Bowl champion. However, when details of the entire trade emerged, fans were excited to see what they got in return.
Breaking: Eagles Land 23-Year-Old Starter In Massive Trade With Unexpected Team
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter:
Another Texans trade: Houston is acquiring veteran safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson from the Eagles in exchange for former first-round pick Kenyon Green, per Djbienaime and me. Trade includes a pick swap with the Eagles getting a 2026 5th-round pick and the Texans getting a 2026 6th.
In the 2022 NFL Draft, the Texans traded down from No. 13 to No. 15 with the Eagles and then selected Kenyon Green. Three years later, they’re now trading Green to Philadelphia.
It’s been one year since CJGJ re-signed with the team in free agency. He is now unexpectedly gone. However, here is the player they got in return:
As a former first-round pick, Green struggled in 2024, and Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus believed he could be traded during the offseason:
“In his two healthy years, Kenyon Green has recorded PFF overall grades of 37.7 and 38.6, struggling as both a run blocker and in pass protection,” Locker wrote. “In fact, Green was the third-lowest-graded offensive lineman in the NFL this season (minimum 500 snaps). The sad truth is that Green’s inability to develop has severely hindered Houston’s interior offensive line and, thus, the team’s offensive efficacy.”
If anyone can get an offensive lineman up to snuff, it would be the Philadelphia Eagles.
