The NFL trade rumor mill is on fire after a blockbuster proposal surfaced linking Philadelphia Eagles star wide receiver AJ Brown to an AFC contender in exchange for a starting quarterback and a first-round pick.
AJ Brown Named in Bombshell NFL Trade Proposal: AFC Star QB + First-Round Pick on the Table

According to a detailed report from Total Pro Sports published February 3, 2026, the Cincinnati Bengals have emerged as the most aggressive suitor for Brown. The proposed framework would send:
Alex Ballantine of Bleacher Report named Brown a potential trade target for the Los Angeles Chargers. In exchange, the Chargers would send former first-round pick Quentin Johnston to Philadelphia.
“The same could be said for wide receiver. Right now, it’s low on the list of priorities, but if AJ Brown is on the way out then it becomes a position that could be targeted. The Eagles would probably want to avoid targeting an expensive player, but Quentin Johnston could be fairly cheap entering the final year of his rookie contract,” Ballantine wrote.
After two complex seasons, Johnston found a footing in 2025. He caught 51 passes for 735 yards and eight touchdowns in 14 games. His dropping issues are no longer there, and the Eagles could have a pair of safe hands to replace Brown’s.
On the other hand, the former Tennessee Titans wide receiver caught 78 passes for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns. The Chargers’ running game isn’t as strong as the Eagles’, which would give him more chances to shine.
Eagles’ Perspective: Rebuilding or Reloading?
Philadelphia finished 11-6 in 2025 and were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. This raised questions about the future of QB Jalen Hurts, head coach Nick Sirianni, and the overall direction. Brown has been vocal about wanting to win championships in Philly, but extension talks have reportedly stalled over guaranteed money and term length.
If the Eagles move Brown, they could:
- Gain a high 2026 draft pick to address offensive line or secondary needs
- Acquire a veteran/bridge QB to compete with or replace Hurts
- Create ~$24M in immediate cap relief
The Eagles have not commented on the rumor, but sources say the front office is “open to listening” if the offer is overwhelming.
Fan Reactions on X: Panic, Excitement, and Mock Trades
The proposal has split fanbases on social media:
- Eagles fans: “AJ Brown for a first-round pick? Hell no. Do not trade our best weapon.”
- “If we trade AJ, this rebuild is officially dead. Keep him and Hurts and fix the line.”
- Eagles fans: “AJ Brown + Herbert? That’s unfair. Make the trade happen.”
- “AJ Brown to Philadelphia would break the AFC. Eagles would be fools to accept.”
Mock trades and memes have flooded timelines, with many users joking about “AJ Brown to Herbert” being a cheat code.
Current Status and Realistic Odds
No deal is close, and the Eagles have repeatedly stated they view Brown as a cornerstone. However, with the NFL offseason officially underway, free agency looming in March, and the 2026 draft approaching, the window for a massive trade exists if Philadelphia decides to pivot.
This remains high-level speculation — but the fact that credible sources are connecting the Eagles and Bengals to AJ Brown talks means the rumor has serious traction.
