The Penn State Nittany Lions saw their season hit a breaking point when quarterback Drew Allar went down with a season-ending injury in Week 7. That was also the final game that James Franklin coached the program before being fired that weekend. Allar discussed the situation and the emotions from that difficult point in his life, so let’s take a deeper dive into his emotions about the situation.
Drew Allar Discusses Injury & James Franklin Firing

While on a Zoom teleconference with reporters earlier this week ahead of the Penn State’s Senior Day game, quarterback Drew Allar discussed the emotions of Week 7, where he suffered a season-ending broken left ankle and saw coach James Franklin fired that weekend.
“Yeah, that was, honestly, one of the worst weekends of my life. And to bounce back from it, I just stuck to my circle between my teammates here at Penn State and my family back home. Coach (Franklin) was at the hospital with me Saturday night, like when I was getting more imaging done to kind of figure out everything. And then, obviously, I was in that team meeting Sunday morning when everything was kind of broke to us. But then, honestly, I had to get back home to Medina and flew out Tuesday out of Cleveland to get surgery.
“So, it was a very fast flip of the switch, honestly, it still doesn’t feel real to some extent. And I’m just kind of going with it day-by-day. But yeah, it was a crazy 72 hours in all honesty between that Saturday to really Monday. I mean, it’s just dealing with it and taking it a day at a time.”
Drew Allar was having a good statistical season ahead of his injury as he completed 103 of 159 (64.8%) of his passes for 1,100 yards with eight passing touchdowns and three interceptions. Allar also ran the football well as he also recorded 36 rushing attempts for 172 yards (4.8 yards per carry) with one rushing touchdown.
There is a chance that the last image of the quarterback at Penn State will be the injury as he can declare for the 2026 NFL Draft. It will be interesting to see what the future of the Penn State Nittany Lions and Drew Allar looks like going forward.
