New England Patriots News: Drake Maye Suffers Serious Injury in Week 8 vs. New York Jets

The New England Patriots have been trying to keep their Week 8 hopes alive as they are looking to see improvement from rookie quarterback Drake Maye. However, his day was cut short as he suffered a concussion in the second quarter of the game against the New York Jets and backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett has replaced him under center.

Drake Maye has looked solid but did not put up many numbers against the New York Jets as he went 3-of-6 for 23 yards as well as three carries for 46 yards and his first career rushing touchdown. The injury happened when New York Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood tackled him on a scramble and he would continue the drive.

However, Drake Maye would be evaluated during the second quarter and miss the final two drives for the New England Patriots before halftime. During the halftime interview with CBS, New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo stated that Drake Maye’s day was done as he suffered a concussion. The Patriots are going to look for Jacoby Brissett to lead the way for the remainder of the game.

What should the New England Patriots do after the Drake Maye injury?

The New England Patriots have a strength of running the football and while the Jets have a strong defensive line, the Pats should lean on the running game to get the offense going. When these teams met at MetLife Stadium in Week 3, the Jets held Jacoby Brissett to 12-of-18 for 98 yards, meaning they are going to limit what Brissett can do.

The Patriots have a good running game with Rhomandre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson. With their special teams and running game, they can keep this game close and hope that things happen.
