President Donald Trump was blasted by Stephen A. Smith over his administration’s funding decisions, particularly with Howard University.
In one of his recent videos, Stephen A. Smith gave his honest opinion on the recent controversy Donald Trump has faced over his funding decision about Howard University.
Specifically, the Trump administration suggested rescinding a previously allocated $64 million for the construction of Howard University Hospital. Their reasoning was that these funds were no longer required as the hospital’s construction was already finished.
While Trump defended the move by highlighting his past support for HBCUs, critics pointed out that Black land-grant universities have been underfunded by over $12 billion in the past 30 years, raising concerns about the long-term financial stability of institutions like Howard.

In his commentary, Smith highlighted how Trump doesn’t care at all, but cares for another thing entirely.
“He still could have given it to them if he wanted to, but according to my sources, he doesn’t like the board at Howard University,” Smith said. “He doesn’t appreciate the way they have treated him, according to sources close to Trump. And because of that, he doesn’t particularly like them. And if he doesn’t like them, he’s not going to do him any favors. That’s how this works. At some point in time, you can lament it all day.”
“They think the behavior is juvenile. It’s excessive. It’s uncalled for. It’s beneath the presidency of the United States. Blah blah blah. He doesn’t care.”

Smith added that more than that, Trump cares more about courtesy and building rapport with him to gain his favor.
Donald Trump Faces Funding Criticism Over Howard University Issue
Donald Trump’s administration has sparked controversy with its funding decisions regarding Howard University, a historically Black college. The administration proposed cutting a $64 million payment that was previously allocated for the construction of Howard University Hospital, arguing that the funds were no longer necessary since the hospital was completed

The administration’s decision has led to debates about equity in higher education funding, with Howard University stating that it hopes to maintain its budget at least at the 2025 level to continue its mission of academic excellence.
Additionally, reports surfaced about the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an agency led by Elon Musk, allocating $1.34 million to Howard University for diversity recruitment programs. The payments, made on behalf of the U.S. Department of State, were intended to increase representation in the Foreign Service, but the exact use of the funds remains unclear.

The controversy has fueled broader discussions about government spending, diversity initiatives, and the financial challenges faced by HBCUs under the Donald Trump administration.
