President Donald Trump recently announced that he will impose a 100% tariff on all foreign-made films. ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith gave his honest take on the issue.
In one of his recent videos, Stephen A. Smith gave his honest take on Donald Trump recently imposing a 100% tariff on all foreign-made films, and its potential impact on the film and entertainment industry.
“So his argument is going to be they’re taking their business elsewhere,” Smith said. “We’ve got to compel them to do business right here in the United States. One of the ways to do that is to put these tariffs on for on on on content produced outside of the US. And as a result, you’re going to have people who are going to engage rather than reciprocate.”
“They may do the same thing to the movie industry. He’s not blind to that fact. He doesn’t seem to care. And if you say, ‘Hey, okay, then I’m going to do business here in America.’ That doesn’t mean you’re going to get the tax breaks that are available to you at other places.”
“Which means that if you’re Hollywood, you’re going to be producing less content. Studios are going to be greenlighting less less projects. As a result, less people are going to be working. As a result, their bottom lines are going to be compromised. And Hollywood, as a result, collectively is going to be compromised because of it.”
“You don’t think Trump knows that?”

Donald Trump Stuns Hollywood on 100% Foreign Film Tariff
The entertainment industry was left stunned and uncertain after President Donald Trump announced plans to impose a 100% tariff on all foreign-made films. The proposal, which aims to revive domestic film production, has raised questions about its feasibility and potential consequences.

Industry executives and analysts worry that such tariffs could increase production costs, discourage international collaborations, and limit creative freedom. While the White House has stated that no final decisions have been made, Trump’s declaration has already impacted media stocks, with companies like Netflix and Disney seeing declines.

The proposal has also drawn mixed reactions from Hollywood unions. While SAG-AFTRA expressed support for efforts to increase domestic production, other organizations, such as the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, have called for a balanced approach that includes tax incentives rather than restrictive tariffs.
Donald Trump has been imposing tariffs on various industries to boost domestic manufacturing and reduce reliance on foreign imports, arguing that these measures will create American jobs and strengthen the economy.
