Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin are two names that just about everyone on planet earth has heard of. They are two of the most powerful leaders in the world. The two famous individuals recently spoke on the phone for an extended period of time.
While they discussed numerous topics, a major sporting event made its way into the conversation.
Wild: Donald Trump And Vladimir Putin Planning Huge Sporting Event

According to journalist Alex Hoegler:
Despite international pressure and urgency to a ceasefire and have Russia reach a peace agreement with Ukraine, Trump and Putin decided to get into a bizarre discussion about hockey games.
Per Meridith McGraw of The Wall Street Journal, the Kremlin announced in a statement that Donald Trump approved of Putin’s idea to organize “hockey matches in the United States and Russia between Russian and American players playing in the NHL and KHL.”
This is a strange development because Russian international hockey teams (men’s, women’s and juniors) have been suspended from play by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) since Russia’s Feb. 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

A deal between Trump and Putin would still need to be endorsed by the NHL and its players. It already seems like Putin’s wish is nothing more than a pipe dream considering the backlash the league would face if they gave it the thumbs up.
While this may be something to consider in the future, an immediate hockey match by the two nations seems far-fetched. However, this conversation can’t help but bring up memories of the 1980 Olympics when the United States took down the heavily favored Soviet Union. No, it wasn’t Russia, but you can’t help but think Russia would consider themselves favorites going into this type of matchp.
