Donald Trump’s administration is criticizing one state’s treatment of transgender athletes in high school sports. He warned state officials that not complying with federal mandates could have dire consequences.
Donald Trump Threatens State Over Failing To Ban Transgender Athlete

By allowing a transgender pole vaulter to compete in the girls’ division, the Maine Department of Education, Maine Principals’ Association, and Greely High School have violated Title IX according to Trump:
In a press release on Monday, Anthony Archeval, acting director of OCR at HHS, made it clear that Maine must reverse course. “The Maine Department of Education may not shirk its obligations under Federal law by ceding control of its extracurricular activities, programs, and services to the Maine Principals’ Association,” Archeval stated.
The OCR has given Maine officials 10 days to comply or face potential legal action from the U.S. Department of Justice.
The controversy escalated when Trump signed an executive order titled Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports, directing federal agencies to enforce a strict interpretation of Title IX. This order mandates that schools receiving federal funds must bar transgender girls from competing in female sports divisions.

Despite this, Maine has resisted. Gov. Janet Mills has defended the state’s position, citing both state and federal laws. The president isn’t backing down, however.
His warning of severe consequences for noncompliance earlier this year sparked a heated exchange. “You better comply,” Trump said. “Otherwise, you’re not getting any federal funding.” Mills pushed back, responding, “We’ll see you in court.”

It will be interesting to see how this pans out and what the “consequences” will actually be. This isn’t something either side seems like they’ll back down from.
