Tensions in Los Angeles hit a boiling point this weekend after a series of aggressive ICE raids on Friday led to violent protests across the city. In response, President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops—despite fierce opposition from California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.
According to officials, demonstrators clashed with federal agents, throwing rocks and even setting ICE vehicles on fire. Trump doubled down on his decision, addressing the unrest on Truth Social and justifying the military presence as a necessary measure to restore order.
Governor Newsom wasted no time in responding to the federal action, announcing that California plans to sue the Trump administration. He accused the President of overstepping his authority, claiming Trump “illegally federalized the National Guard.”

Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger also weighed in during an interview on The Stephen A. Smith Show, urging both sides to put politics aside and actually work toward solutions.
“We had immigration problems then and we have immigration problems now,” Schwarzenegger said. “It’s just really a shortfall and shortcoming of the politicians because they never solve the problems.”
He added, “The immigration issue can be resolved very quickly by giving more working permits and student visas to people and then they don’t have to come here illegally.”

Schwarzenegger called for bipartisan cooperation to address what he sees as long-standing failures on immigration.
“Democrats and Republicans can come together on this issue and solve this issue,” he said.

As legal battles begin to take shape and protests continue to flare, all eyes are on California’s streets—and the courtroom—where the fight over federal vs. state power is heating up fast.
“On Thursday, the city was peaceful”: LA Mayor Karen Bass points finger to Donald Trump in DC as the cause of the riots
Mayor Karen Bass also voiced her frustration, suggesting the Donald Trump’s administration’s involvement made things worse—not better. “On Thursday, the city was peaceful,” Bass said in a Monday press conference. “On Friday, it was not because of the intervention of the federal government.”

The unrest follows the arrest of at least 44 people by ICE agents, part of Trump’s latest nationwide immigration crackdown.
