US President Donald Trump wants the Washington Commanders to go back to their old name of Washington Redskins, bringing about a mixed reaction from the public. President Trump recently posted on Truth Social that the Commanders should use their old name as a way of honoring Native American people, and that a lot of them have been eager for the change.

The Commanders have been going by their current name ever since the 2022 NFL season. The team actually moved on from ‘Redskins’ in the 2020 season when they went by the Washington Football Team for a couple of seasons. The decision to change from Redskins was because of a move from sponsors who felt that the name offended Native Americans. However, the current POTUS is spinning a different story that Native Americans want the name to return.
“The Washington ‘Whatever’s’ should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team. There is a big clamoring for this. . . . . Our great Indian people, in massive numbers, want this to happen. Their heritage and prestige is systematically being taken away from them. Times are different now than they were three or four years ago. We are a Country of passion and common sense. OWNERS, GET IT DONE!!!” US President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social.

US President Donald Trump not only asked the Washington Commanders to return to their previous name, but also threatened that he wouldn’t get their new stadium in Washington D.C. done if they did not make the change.
