The Miami Dolphins come into week 5 with key injuries to major players. The New York Jets come off a week 5 win in stunning fashion on the road vs the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dolphins have won 10 of the last 12 games vs the Jets, can the Jets turn it around vs the division rival? Here are key things to look for in the game.
Dolphins Key Injuries
As everyone knows Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa suffered a severe concussion in the week 4 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Tua has been ruled out for the week 5 matchup and when he will be able to play next is up in the air. That is not the only injury suffered to a key player however.
All-Pro cornerback Xavien Howard was removed from the game last week with a groin injury. He came into the game questionable with that same injury so it did not come as a surprise. Howard is being listed as day-to-day but do not be surprised if Howard is forced to sit this week out.
Cornerback Byron Jones has been out all season with an achilles injury and has still yet to practice. The Dolphins could potentially be out with each of their starting cornerbacks.
Jets Young Receivers
The Jets got their young QB back last week in Zach Wilson. There is a debate whether the team is better right now with Wilson or Joe Flacco, but there is no debate that they have good young weapons to throw the ball too. Corey Davis, Garrett Wilson, and Elijah Moore is a good young receiving core for the young Wilson to develop with.
Davis, a former first round pick, had five catches 74 yards and a touchdown in the win last week. Wilson has shown off his blazing speed so far this season, and Moore showed flashes last season of being a true number one receiver.
As mentioned above, the Dolphins could be without two top cornerbacks so look for these receivers to try and feast vs the inexperienced and banged up Dolphins secondary.
Teddy Bridgewater replaces Tua
Luckily, Bridgewater is one of the best backup QBs a team could ask for. His unfortunate injuries have wound up hurting his starting chances, but his experience will keep him in the league for as long as he sees fit.
After Tua suffered the injury last week, the Dolphins turned to Bridgewater who made some nice plays. Bridgwater threw for 193 yards and a touchdown but then threw a key interception when driving late in the fourth quarter. He seemed to have a good rapport with Tyreek Hill so even though the Dolphins will not have their franchise quarterback, do not be surprised if Bridgewater has a good game.
Prediction: Dolphins 24- Jets 21
I see the Dolphins weapons on offense to be too much for this leaky Jets defense. Bridgewater will make enough plays and the defense will get a key turnover late to decide the game.
