The Miami Dolphins opened up as the underdogs ahead of their prime time matchup against the Los Angeles Rams Monday night. This game was a must win for the Dolphins if they had any hopes of keeping their season alive. As for the Rams, they were looking to extend the 3-game winning streak that they had under their belt. With both teams rosters healthy and the incentives established between them, the stage was set for a dog fight in SoFi Stadium.
The final score read 23-15 in favor of Miami, majority of the points scored were done so through the uprights with 24 of the games total points coming from field goals. As I mentioned earlier, this was a dog fight we just witnessed in Inglewood. The defenses of both teams stepped up and made big plays throughout the entire game, including one interception and fumble recovery for both squads. This contest happened to be of the few times this year that this Miami Dolphins team has shown some tenacity and grit.
Waddle’s bounce back
Star Dolphins receiver Jaylen Waddle had a big impact on Miami’s win Monday night. Waddle ended up with 57 yards through the air on just 3 receptions, that includes a major 36 yard catch to set his team up in the red zone early in the first quarter. After coming off a 2 reception game for a total of -4 yards against the Bills last Sunday, Waddle needed a solid performance under the bright Monday night lights and he delivered. His 2 catches on the first drive gave him enough to cover the line for his receiving yards that was set at 46.5.
The Dolphins have no doubt
Although the Dolphins recent play has not given their fans much to be hopeful about, the players have made their belief in this team extremely clear with their actions and words Monday night. Defensive tackle Calais Campbell was interviewed after the win by sportscaster Scott Van Pelt. He shared Miami’s mentality entering the game and how they plan to keep fighting through the remainder of the season.
“This was huge. The mindset was, to start a wildfire, all you need is one spark. That spark happened today and we’ve got to keep it going and build on it…”
ESPN reporter Lisa Salters also caught up with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa on the field after throwing for 207 yards and 1 touchdown with a completion percentage of 71.4%. His interview was similar to Campbells in the sense that both of the leaders interviews function as hope and motivation for the team and Dolphin faithful. Tua verbalizes his confidence in his team and their chances to turn the season around.
“…With the losing streak that we’ve had, just the resilience of this team, it showed tonight…I love our chances.”
