The Kansas City Chiefs flirted with another disaster on Sunday night before earning their 11th win of the season in a 19-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. At 11-1, the Chiefs clinched their ninth-consecutive AFC West championship.
Close games in recent weeks
Kansas City has been living on close wins all season.
The Chiefs have one win by more than one score (28-18 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 20) this season. Since losing to the 30-21 to the Buffalo Bills, the Chiefs have won their last three games by a combined seven points. Two of those games came against the Las Vegas Raiders and Carolina Panthers, NFL basement dwellers.
That’s not promising for a team looking to win a Super Bowl in February.
Injuries have been part of the problem for the Chiefs all season. Kansas City has 12 players on injured reserve, including four wide receivers, three tight ends, and one offensive lineman.
Offensive line has been another issue for the Chiefs this season, especially at left tackle. Kansas City has troubling news on that front Monday.
The Kansas City Chiefs have another injury issue
Per Pete Sweeney with Arrowhead Pride, DJ Humphries will have an MRI done due to a hamstring injury he suffered Sunday night against the Chargers.
“Andy Reid said DJ Humphries (hamstring) feels a little bit better this morning but is due for an MRI,” Sweeney posted on X.

The Chiefs signed Humphries on Nov. 25 to add veteran depth at left tackle. Second-year tackle Wanya Morris and rookie Kingsley Suamataia have taken turns being benched this season.
The good news is that Humphries’ hamstring feels better, but the nature of the injury means the Chiefs might not want to push the 30-year-old lineman too hard this week. They don’t need another offensive player on injured reserve for the playoffs.
