Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase did not have a great Sunday. The star receiver was limited to just four catches for 35 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2. Chase was shown throwing a tantrum when a call didn’t go his way in the second half.
The Bengals dropped to 0-2 following a 26-25 game in Kansas City that featured ten lead changes.
Ja’Marr Chase was upset by a call on Sunday
Bengals’ head coach Zac Taylor had to hold Chase back after Chiefs’ cornerback Trent McDuffie tackled him with about ten minutes to go in the game. Television cameras caught Chase yelling at the officials for not making a certain call.
Per CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson, Chase thought McDuffie made a hip-drop tackle to bring him to the ground on the play. The hip-drop tackle was made illegal this offseason, as the league believes it causes too many lower-body injuries.
Chase felt the tackle was a dirty hit by McDuffie.

The video of the play went viral on social media. McDuffie does not appear to have made a hip-drop tackle on Chase.
Ja’Marr Chase wanted a hip drop flag on this.
Do you guys agree?

Chase likely won’t be the last offensive player to call for unnecessary roughness penalties during games. The officials stood by their guns and didn’t throw a flag.
Still, when the league decided to do away with the hip-drop tackle, they invited more controversy surrounding tackling. The hip-drop tackle was never well-defined. Chase won’t be the last player confused by whether they were tackled illegally or not.
