The Arizona Cardinals took some major hits in the offseason; these include the losses of Chandler Jones to the Las Vegas Raiders and Christian Kirk to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Add on top of that the six-game suspension of star wide receiver, DeAndre Hopkins, and you can see how the Cardinals may have taken a step back this off-season.
So What’s Next?

What’s next is that team owner, Michael Bidwill, and General Manager, Steve Keim, must get creative. Fans want them to battle for the top spot in the NFC West division; however, it appears the team is setting itself up for the next off-season.
First, Kyler Murray, will play out his rookie contract this season, with the assumption the Cardinals will sign him to a max contract. Combine this with a large collection of picks in the 2023 draft and you can see the Cardinals may be looking at the 2022 season as a bit of a wash.
2022 Draft Results?

Having said that, there is still hope for the incoming draft picks. Specifically speaking, the Cardinals were lucky to add second-round pick, Trey McBride, out of Colorado State. The 6’4″ tight end could be a useful target for the smaller Murray. He struggled at times in the red zone due to his small stature. Now, having the option to throw the ball up to McBride could result in more scoring opportunities.
Combine the addition of McBride with the imposing Cameron Thomas, a defensive lineman out of San Diego State University, who had a team-high 11.5 sacks.
These two picks and a slew of returning veterans mean the Arizona Cardinals will still be a team to be reckoned with in the upcoming season, especially once Hopkins returns from his suspension.
