The Texas Longhorns had to rally and beat the Mississippi State Bulldogs in overtime 45-38 last week. Quarterback Arch Manning had to enter concussion protocol after the first overtime for Texas.

In that game, Manning completed 63.0% of his passes for 346 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. He also rushed for six yards on 10 carries and one touchdown in the game as well. The Longhorns have a 6-2 record, and they will have to beat the 7-1 Vanderbilt Commodores this week if they want to have any chance at making the college football playoffs. Will Manning be able to play for Texas this week?
Texas Longhorns QB Arch Manning Status In Doubt For Saturday’s Game

Grace Raynor of the Athletic reported on Monday about the injury status for Manning for the upcoming Vanderbilt matchup. Raynor said,
“Arch Manning is in concussion protocol and did not practice Monday for Texas, Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian said late Monday morning.
“We’ll have more information as the week goes,” Sarkisian said in his weekly news conference.
Manning, Texas’ starting quarterback, went down in overtime of the Longhorns’ come-from-behind win against Mississippi State on Saturday after a 13-yard scramble put Texas at the Bulldogs’ 12-yard line. Manning hit his head on the ground while diving forward and spent the rest of the game in the injury tent.
In his absence, backup Matthew Caldwell entered the game and connected with Emmett Mosley V in the right corner of the end zone for the game-winning touchdown.”
If Manning can not play for Texas against Vanderbilt this weekend, Caldwell would get the start for the Longhorns. Texas is in a must-win situation this weekend. If they lose, it would eliminate them from playoff contention and it would make Vanderbilt’s case much stronger to be a college football team. The status for Manning’s concussion will be worth monitoring as the week progresses.
