Detroit Lions offensive lineman Taylor Decker has been one of the anchors on this football team up front. His agent announced on Monday that Decker signed a three-year deal worth $60 million and $31.83 million of this deal is guaranteed. This was a huge move for the Lions because they are Super Bowl contenders.
Taylor Decker is one of the best-left tackles in the NFL. He is the seventh highest-paid tackle in the NFL. Entering the 2024 season, Decker was entering the final year of his contract. One of the things that the Lions had to take care of was giving him a contract extension. Quarterback Jared Goff received a contract extension earlier this offseason. Also, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown received one and so did Penei Sewell.
General manager Brad Holmes said in an interview on Monday about Decker:
“He’s been a key cog of what we’ve been building, what we’ve been doing. His leadership, his professionalism — he’s a guy that really embraced our culture, so he’s a big part of what we do, and it all starts up front with the offensive line, as we all know, so I’m just really, really happy that we were able to get that one done and happy for Deck and his family.”
The Lions have one of the best offensive lines in the league led by Decker. Detroit will be a serious contender once again this season. They lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game last season.
Detroit Lions Fans React To the Taylor Decker News
The Lions fanbase was happy when they gave another core player a contract extension. This is what some Detroit fans had to say:
OH MY GOD LETS GO! Congrats @__taylordecker ! One of the very few Lions of all time to stick it out with the franchise. You deserve it T-Deck! 🥹💙🦁 https://t.co/RQx3zyUutF

Time to give him that “C”
I heard chatter about that in the past week, but he needed that extension first. Now I think it’s an automatic that he deserves to be a captain.

It would be interesting to see if head coach Dan Campbell gave him the “C” before the start of the 2024 NFL season. There is no doubt that quarterback Jared Goff will be one of the captains this season for the Detroit Lions. Taylor Decker is one of the most important players on this roster.
They could not have afforded going into this season without him getting a new contract with one year remaining on it. The Lions do not have to worry about that now.
