The 9-1 Detroit Lions will travel to Indiana to face the 5-6 Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium for their 11th regular season game. For Sunday’s contest, the Lions hope to replicate last week’s dominant 52-6 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars and sweep the AFC South division. Last week, the offense did not have a Pro Bowler available against the Jaguars.
The Detroit Lions PB TE missed Week 11
Tight end Sam LaPorta injured his left shoulder in the second quarter and did not return in their Week 10 victory over the Houston Texans. Tests determined that LaPorta suffered an AC joint sprain, and is considered day-to-day. After not practicing last week, the Lions ruled him out last Friday against the Jacksonville Jaguars and missed the first game of his young NFL career.
His availability for Week 12 is looking good
The Lions held a walkthrough on Wednesday and estimated Sam LaPorta as a full participant. Head coach Dan Campbell said LaPorta is “questionable to above” regarding his availability for Sunday’s noon game. He also went on to say that his shoulder is trending the right way.
“I think it’s trending, it’s questionable to above for LaPorta,” Campbell said. “I think it’s trending the right way.”
Who started at TE and who played?
Brock Wright started and played 82% of snaps, James Mitchell played the second most at 32%, and Shane Zylstra played the least amount at 24%. Zylstra led all tight ends in receiving with one reception for 22 yards, Brock had one reception for five yards and one touchdown, and Mitchell did not register a target or reception last week.
Dan Cambell praised the tight end room for stepping up with Sam LaPorta out.
“Yeah, those guys didn’t miss a beat. We got James Mitchell up off the practice squad. He showed up, played for us. I thought played a solid game. Certainly wasn’t too big for him, he’s played for us before. That was good,” Campbell said. “I thought Brock carried the load for us, man. He played a lot of reps, a lot of snaps, and he really had to do a lot of different jobs. We all know he does the dirty work, the run game, the protection; he was outstanding in protection. … And then Zylstra has been kind of a staple for us going on four weeks or whatever it was. Just quietly goes about his business and does his job.”
