The Detroit Lions franchise already is mourning the loss of the iconic Joe Schmidt, who passed away last month. Unfortunately, the Lions family had to announce another loss on Friday with the passing of former Pro Bowl quarterback Greg Landry.

No cause of death has been announced. Landry played for the Lions from 1968-1978 before spending three seasons with the Baltimore Colts. He last appeared in an NFL game in 1984 with the Chicago Bears, ironically against the Lions.
Landry also spent over decade coaching in the NFL after his playing career was over. He closed out that chapter of his life with a two-year stint as the Lions quarterbacks coach from 1995-1996.
Greg Landry Had a Great Career with the Detroit Lions
Landry was the first quarterback drafted in the 1968 AFL/NFL Draft with the Lions taking him with the 11th overall pick. In 1971, his fourth season in the league, Landry threw for 2,237 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions while leading Detroit to a 7-6-1 record.
Landry was named to his only Pro Bowl that season and finished ninth in MVP voting.
The former Lions quarterback was one of the best running quarterbacks in the NFL during his career. He accumulated 2,655 rushing yards throughout his career along with 21 rushing touchdowns.
In 1972, Landry had a career-high nine rushing touchdowns while running for 524 yards.
As mentioned previously, Landry also played for the Colts and Bears during his career. His one game as Chicago’s quarterback came in 1984 after he spent two years playing in the CFL. He only attempted two passes in his final NFL game, which was played against Detroit.
His final NFL completion was a touchdown.
