The Detroit Lions are the best team in football, and one of the most dominant teams across the league in recent memory.

After throttling the Green Bay Packers in a torrential downpour at Lambeau Field on Sunday afternoon, 24-14, in a game in which the outcome was never seriously in doubt, the Lions are creating significant separation from themselves and the rest of the NFL.
According to FTN Fantasy Analyst Aaron Schatz, The Lions’ DVOA was 45% with Baltimore checking in at 31%.
“That’s a huge gap between top teams,” Schatz tells me. “Detroit was one of the top 10 teams through seven games since 1979.
“The gap between Detroit and No. 2 Baltimore was about the same as the gap between the Ravens and No. 9 Washington.”
Why Detroit Lions Should Be Aggressive at The NFL Trade Deadline

That’s sizable separation between the Lions and the other legitimate Super Bowl contenders in the NFC, and otherwise.
However, and especially after losing All-Pro edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson for the season, Brad Holmes may need to be one of the more aggressive general managers ahead of the trade deadline, especially when it comes to bolstering an already quality depth chart as well as making up for Hutchinson’s production along the front-seven.
“The obvious move would be a trade for a pass rusher,” NFL Analyst Mark Schofield writes for SBNation. “With Aidan Hutchinson out for the season, Detroit should be looking at adding a presence off the edge. Myles Garrett and Maxx Crosby are the two big names floating out there, but recent reporting has Brad Holmes zeroing in on Za’Darius Smith.
“But regardless of the player, Holmes needs to take that big swing.”
Detroit has the pieces in place to be considered the favorites in the NFC, however, in order to bolster the Lions’ chances of winning a Super Bowl this season, expect Holmes to be a big player for some of the top edge rushers available in the hours before the deadline.
