The Detroit Lions suffered a massive injury in Week 6 when Aidan Hutchinson broke his leg on a sack against the Dallas Cowboys. He was instantly ruled out for the season, but now there are major positive updates coming out.
According to a report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Hutchinson very well could return to the field if the Lions end up making it to the Super Bowl.
“Sources close to Aidan Hutchinson believe the Lions standout defensive end will have a realistic chance to return for the Super Bowl if Detroit advances that far.”
This is obviously a major positive for Detroit.
Do the Detroit Lions Have Legitimate Super Bowl Hopes?
Being able to have Hutchinson back for the Super Bowl would be huge, but do they have a real shot at making that happen?
Throughout the first six weeks of the 2024 NFL season, the Detroit Lions have gone 4-1. They are without a doubt a serious contender in the NFC right now. However, in order to get to the Super Bowl, they’ll have to beat some tough competition.
Just in the NFC North alone, the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers appear to be serious contenders. The Chicago Bears could be a sleeper team to watch as a playoff team as well.
Outside of the division, the Lions would have to get past teams like the San Francisco 49ers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Cowboys. At this point in time, the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles look like competitive teams as well.
No one from the NFC will have an easy path to the big game. For the Detroit Lions, they certainly have the talent to compete and make a run, but not having Hutchinson will definitely make things more difficult.
It will be interesting to see what the Lions choose to do ahead of the NFL trade deadline on November 5th. Some rumors have connected them to a player like veteran pass-rusher Za’Darius Smith. That kind of move would certainly help them until Hutchinson returns.
Expect to see Detroit be a very competitive team all year long. If they get hot, they could very well make the Super Bowl and give Hutchinson a chance to get back on the field.
