Another Day in the Life
The Detroit Lions lose again. As a Lions fan, you get to a point where games like today’s 28-24 loss to the Vikings aren’t terribly bothersome. Every week is another week preparation for heartbreak. It’s just part of being a Lions fan. Besides this fact of life for Detroit fans, lets take a look at Dan Campbell’s boys after the conclusion of game three.
The Good
Jamaal Williams lead the team this week against Minnesota with 87 yards on 20 carries for 2 touchdowns. In an otherwise stagnant offense, Williams stands out as the best offensive player for the Lions this week with his 2 TDs, a spot where we’ve come to expect to see Amon-Ra St. Brown. Amon-Ra had 6 receptions on 9 targets for 73 yards and finally had his 8+ receptions per game streak snapped.
The Bad
The Lions defense gave up 123 yards and two touchdowns to the Vikings running back duo of Cook and Mattison. Kirk Cousins also went 24 for 41 with 250 yards and two passing touchdowns. The second passing touchdown coming in the fourth quarter to a wide open K.J. Osborn. Lions fans know the defense is young and it’s to be expected that the growing pains will last through the year. It’s also unreasonable to expect the offense to be able to be negate the points given up, especially with Goff behind center.
The Ugly
It’s time for the Lions to get a new kicker. Austin Seibert is not good. He can onside kick the ball just fine and that is great, but he is not an NFL quality kicker. We’re talking about a job that has 32 positions in the world at the top level. I refuse to believe that there isn’t somebody, ANYBODY, better than Seibert that is willing or able to join the team. Seibert went 1 for 3 today in the game. That’s 6 points dropped. Maybe there was something in the air today in Minnesota. Greg Joseph, the kicker for the Vikings, also missed two field goals, but it’s still no excuse.
